For five year, researchers in Quebec have mobilized to understand the concerns raised by the advancement of AI-enabled systems and to accompany all stakeholders in their responses to these challenges. Today, I joined with Lyse Langlois, Director of the International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI and Digital Technologies (OBVIA), and other colleagues of OBVIA to express our opinion on the importance of responsible AI in order to better serve the public interest and all members of society.
The open letter, written in French is available through Le Devoir.
As the letter concludes, we call for closer collaboration between the research community, developers, industry and civil society to support public decision makers in the governance and regulation of AI by placing human beings and the biosphere at the centre of the debates.
